Barcodes have been around for more than 40 years. Every parcel has a barcode. Still more than 50% of all parcels are NOT scanned.

Transport companies have known the challenges for a long time. Expensive Investment in special scanners. Development of complex software and heavy traffic databases on the internet. Then add a complex sub contractor system, where drivers own their vehicle and you have some of the answers why more than 50% of all parcels are NOT scanned

We decided to do something about it. The solution is ScanApp© from EDI-Soft. And best of all – It’s free.


 

How does it work?
ScanApp© is an application build for Android and IPhone smart phones. 
It uses the camera function to scan the barcode.
Driver can attach different Event codes like “delivered”, “load to truck” or whatever event configured by the company.
Receiver can sign directly on the smart phone pad with his finger or a special pen.  Driver can also take pictures, add comments or weight.
Together with a timestamp, the GPS location is automatically uploaded to Consignor Portal for track and trace. Public in a second.

 

Why is this smart?
Why invest in a Scanner when you already have one that fits in our pocket?
Smart phones are getting cheaper day by day. Their battery last longer, and can be charged in your car. If you lose it, it’s easy to get a new one.  You are already familiar with your smart phone and don’t need to handle a new device.
Best thing is that you don’t have to figure out who should pick up the bill. It’s free.

What happens when out of range?
When a smartphone is out of range, the ScanApp© is still fully functional. All events are stored in the Outbox with correct GPS position and timestamp. When the Smart phone is back in range all the events are automatically uploaded to the portal. 

How to get my business up and running?
Contact EDI-Soft and order a new EPI number. The EPI number puts your company in control of all the Events necessary for running your business.  EDI-Soft will advise you on how to configure some proper events so it fits your business. This is done in less than an hour, and you can start invite drivers to install the ScanApp©

How to install on my smart phone?
Follow the link to Appstore if you have Iphone or Android Market if you have an Android phone. Install the app in seconds. Tell us who you are, and who is your boss. A password is sent to you by SMS, and you are up and running in less than a minute.
The ScanApp© is a small file. Downloading is done in seconds even on a poor internet connection.

Can data from the Smartphone be exported?
All data collected from your Drivers ScanApp© is automatically sent to Consignor Portal. Events are matched directly with the barcode. Users of Consignor Portal can follow their parcels seconds after the Scan of the Parcel is done.
If your business needs to retrieve the data for other purposes this can be done through web services and easily integrated into other business systems.

What does it cost?
ScanApp© is free. Upload and processing of events into Consignor Portal is also free for parcels stored in Consignor Portal.
For Scanning and Processing of Parcel not made in the Consignor System there will be a small transaction fee. Ask for an offer that fits your business.

Is it expensive to use when it comes to data traffic?
Most smart phones come with a subscription model with free data traffic domestic. In this case there will be no extra cost domestic. Be aware, when abroad, you can expect higher cost on data traffic. The normal event traffic is highly compressed and doesn't generate much traffic. A picture however generates more data traffic. You should therefor consider not taking pictures or only send pictures with low resolution when abroad.
